Synopsis

 

The estranged wife of a terminally ill man contends with his younger lover who has come with a potential miracle remedy and plans to rekindle their relationship.

Amina, the middle-aged wife of Manda, a terminally ill man has returned to take care of her husband in his last days after 5 years of separation. She wants to reconcile with her dying husband, but he is distant.

A knock on the door jolts Amina out of her reverie one day and she is shocked to find Ciku, Manda’s younger ex-girlfriend standing by the door. Ciku barges in and heads straight for Manda. Ciku proceeds to offer Manda an experimental medication. The two women get into an argument with Amina stopping Ciku. who Ciku pleads with Manda to let her help him, but he does not want to take more medication.

Amina is now stuck between the possibility of reconciling with Manda or risk allowing Ciku to save him and rekindle their relationship.

Samuel Tebandeke is a screenwriter, producer, and director over a decade of experience in film. He has initiated and facilitated several capacity building initiatives in East Africa. His current initiative, the Great Lakes Creative Producers Lab that runs annually every November in Nairobi, Kenya aims to give emerging creative producers the skills to empower them to manage a film project from development to distribution.

He is an alum of the MNET Screenwriters workshop (2009) and Maisha Film Lab (2008 & 2009), Ouaga Film Lab (2020), the Film Pro Series Pitching and Post-production workshop (2021), Samuel has gone on to write for TV and film. Two of his feature films have been optioned and he has projects at various stages of development. His debut short film, Another Beautiful Day was released in mid 2017 and was in the official selection of the 40thDurban International Film Festival 2019. His directorial debut Ten O’clock, a short film, was screened In Competition at PÖFF Shorts Film Festival 2019 in Estonia.

In 2022, he produced 2 commissioned feature films, one of which he directed for MNET East Africa. His latest short film, Ziwa was In Competition at FESPACO 2023 (Burkina Faso). The film won the Grand Prize at the Pan African Film Festival Khourigba, Morocco in May 2023 and a Jury Mention at the Zanzibar International Film Festival.
