About the festival

Aswan International Women Film Festival (est. 2017) is the first annual Egyptian film festival that focuses on cinematic works representing women’s issues, celebrating their success stories and supporting female filmmakers in Egypt and the MENA.

AIWFF is also the first festival with a specialized program of filmmaking workshops for the youth in the area, bringing the educational opportunities and skills needed to Aswan, under the hands of leading professionals in the industry.

Not only is Egypt’s Aswan Governorate the farthest point of civilization from the capital, it also holds monumental importance and impact on the country’s cultural and historical significance. The festival’s program, including all seminars and screenings, is open to the general public of Aswan and south of the valley (South of Qena), with thousands of locals attending the screenings, and hundreds both enrolled in our Filmmaking Workshops and volunteering in the organization of the festival.

In our 5th Edition in 2021, 6 short films were produced by our participants from A-Z, two of which were submitted and screened in international and regional film festivals.

The 6th Edition of AIWFF will be running from February 23-28, 2022.
