About the festival

Afrikaldia (AFK) is the African Films Festival of the Basque Country, a space dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of African cinema, as well as a platform for reflecting on the realities of the continent and its diaspora. With a critical and diverse perspective, the festival seeks to generate knowledge, break stereotypes, and build bridges between societies through cinema.

  • Official Section: A carefully curated selection of African feature films, both fiction and documentary, that stand out for their artistic quality and authentic portrayal of African societies.

  • Parallel Activities: A series of meetings, debates, roundtables, and workshops designed to foster social awareness, reflection, and intercultural dialogue.

  • Industry Section: A networking hub for audiovisual professionals, facilitating connections and promoting collaborations between African and European filmmakers.

Distinctive Features of Afrikaldia

  • Commitment to the African Community: The African community residing in the Basque Country actively participates in the organization, planning, and execution of each festival edition.

  • Support for Filmmakers: Afrikaldia assists African and Afro-descendant professionals in submitting their short and medium-length films to festivals in the region.
